The wood pellet supplier replenishes Maritime House's fuel stock via the former coal hatch in January
A couple of years after installing a new eco-heating system, Maritime House received its [?] load of wood pellets to replenish its fuel supply. Relatively unique in its heating provision, John Shirley Ltd has sought to minimise its environmental impact.

John Shirley, Managing Director, remarked:

“There are inevitably teething problems when you introduce a new heating system, especially when it uses and unusual fuel source – indeed, there are only few suppliers in the county, and only one company able to maintain the system.”

However, he thought that it would stand the test of time:

“In this small way, the company has borne a certain cost of a new investment for the better. What has to be remembered is that there will always be companies that need to make pioneering decisions into new technologies and new methods of enacting corporate responsibility and dynamism.”

Amongst some of the measures to reduce its ecological footprint, the company has no company cars, sponsors an environment prize, and has installed a sedum roof on Maritime House.
